We have some amazing news from The Pollination Project Foundation! Our application for a grant has been approved!! We will receive 1000USD to renovate the second classroom in Bech Khlok and to buy further education materials for the School. The Pollination Project Foundation focuses on seeding nascent social change projects and passionate and creative leadership. By dividing a large chunk of money into targeted micro-grants, more good work gets funded, and thus has a chance to grow and ultimately blossom in the world. Pollination philanthropy’s goal is not about sustaining an established organization. It is about believing in the power of people, armed with a calling, a passion, a practical vision, and sometimes a smartphone, to make meaningful and fundable change in the world. As you can imagine, we feel truly honored and lucky to be one of the grantees. But there is more good news! In the last weeks I have started to try and find books, or book donations, for the Battambang Countryside Class Library. The building of that library was completed a few weeks ago, and a traditional Opening Ceremony was held. The room is spacious and bright, and the terrace with a view of the river invites people to spend some time and read. All that is missing now are books! The two bookshelves look a bit lost, all empty in the big room.
After many hours of research on the Internet, trying to find Organisations who might help, and after countless emails, I finally received a positive response from KAPE (Kampuchean Action for Primary Education, www.kapekh.org), confirming they will support both the Countryside Class and the Bech Khlok Schools by providing books! After I arrive in PP I will spend a whole day with KAPE in Kampong Cham, to learn about their Organisation and to select the books. In PP, I will also meet with Lina Sorm of Sipar, a publisher in the not-for-profit area. Sipar (www.sipar-books.com) books are not free of charge, but the price range of between $1,50 and $4 per book is a reasonable price for a quality book, so I will go and have a look. I am sure that some of their books will be a good addition to what I can source from KAPE. Four days after my arrival in PP I will finally arrive in Battambang, hopefully in a taxi filled to the roof with books! During the 5 weeks that will follow I will be very busy with all the work involved in the Seed Projects. A lot of time will be needed for the organisation of the Bech Khlok school renovation. But I will also try, together with Kelly and Jeremy of "Seraiah" (www.seraiahcambodia.com), attempt to organise a First Aid course for the teachers. Furthermore, I will spend a week with the Trailblazer Foundation in Siem Reap to learn as much as I can about water purification with bio-sand-filters. I am hopeful to be able to visit their most recent sand-filter project in a remote village (https://vimeo.com/97272947). Here is to hoping the Monsoon does not interfere with my plans too much! Grossartige Neuigkeiten!
Letzte Woche erhielten wir die grossartige Nachricht von der “The Pollination Project” Stiftung, dass unser Antrag für einen Unterstützungsbeitrag angenommen wurde! Ich kann unser Glück immer noch kaum fassen! “The Pollination Project” ist eine grosse, amerikanische Stiftung mit einer ganz speziellen Philosophie. Unter dem Motto "Mehr ist Mehr" wird übers ganze Jahr, täglich jeweils ein Beitrag von 1000USD an ein Kleinprojekt vergeben. Ausschlaggebend für die Entscheidung der Vergabe ist nicht nur das Projekt selber, sondern auch die Person, die dahinter steht. Seed wird den Unterstützungsbeitrag für die Renovation des zweiten Klassenzimmers in Bech Khlok verwenden und Schulmaterial kaufen.
Es gibt aber noch mehr Gutes zu berichten. Ich habe in den letzten Wochen versucht Bücher, oder besser, Buchspenden für die Bibliothek der Countryside Class in Battambang zu finden. Die Bibliothek wurde vor ein paar Wochen fertig gestellt und mit einer traditionellen Zeremonie eingeweiht. Der Raum ist gross und hell und die Terrasse mit Blick auf den Fluss, lädt zum Verweilen und Lesen ein.
Jetzt fehlen nur noch die Bücher! Die zwei bestehenden Büchergestelle sehen in dem grossen Raum etwas verloren aus.
Nach vielen Stunden Suche im Internet nach Organisationen, die ich anfragen könnte und unzähligen Emails, kam dann endlich die positive Antwort von KAPE (Kampuchean Action for Primary Education (http://www.kapekh.org/), dass sie die Bibliothek der Countryside Class und die Schule in Bech Khlok mit Buchspenden unterstützen werden! Ich werde kurz nach meiner Ankunft in Phnom Penh, einen ganzen Tag bei KAPE in Kampong Cham verbringen, um einen Einblick in die Tätigkeitsbereiche der Organisation zu bekommen und um Bücher auszusuchen. Ich werde mich in Phnom Penh aber auch mit Lina Sorm von Sipar, einem Verlag aus dem Nonprofit-Sektor, treffen. Die Bücher von Sipar (http://www.sipar-books.com/) sind zwar nicht gratis, aber $1.50-$4.00 pro Buch ist ein kleiner Preis für ein Buch von so guter Qualität. Auch wird das eine oder andere Buch sicher eine tolle Ergänzung zu den gespendeten Bücher von KAPE sein. 4 Tage nach meiner Ankunft in Kambodscha, werde ich mit einem Taxi - hoffentlich bis zum Dach gefüllt mit Büchern und Gepäck - endlich in Battambang ankommen. Die nächsten 5 Wochen werden, wie immer, mit diversen Aktivitäten ausgefüllt sein. Viel Zeit wird die Organisation der Renovation der Schule und der einwöchige Aufenthalt in Bech Khlok in Anspruch nehmen. Ich versuche aber auch zusammen mit Kelly und Jeremy von "Seraiah" (http://www.seraiahcambodia.com/) einen Erste Hilfe Kurs für die Lehrer auf die Beine zu stellen. Ausserdem werde ich eine Woche bei der Trailblazer Foundation in Siem Reap verbringen,um dort alles über die Wasserreinigung mit mit Bio-Sandfilter zu lernen und hoffentlich die Möglichkeit haben, Trailblazer's neuestes Sandfilter Projekt in einem abgelegenen Dorf zu besuchen (https://vimeo.com/97272947). Hoffentlich macht uns der Monsun keinen Strich durch die Rechnung. Natürlich werde ich euch wieder regelmäßig auf dem Laufenden halten.
