It’s been almost 2 months since I’ve come back to New Zealand. Although I can’t work for Seed as much as I would love to, there are a lot of Seed projects thanks to our great volunteers in Cambodia, Germany and Switzerland Kim, our German volunteer, is working hard at the Countryside Class in Battambang where she is organising the daily English lessons and is giving training to our local teacher Seavyong at the same time. In July, there will be a couple of weeks of additional activities to raise awareness of plastic waste. “Plastic free July” is an Australien Initiative and Sambath, founder of the Countryside Class, is very much involved in organising activities around it. I am looking forward to seeing the photos of our students and teachers collaborating. The following photos are from the English lessons with Kim and Seavyong. By the way, the potatoes made a nice dinner afterwards.
Everything is running as usual at the primary school in Bech Khlok. Luckily it started raining again and the water tanks are filled. Students and teachers are enjoying the lessons in the new classrooms and I hope, the newly introduced teaching aids are being put to use regularly. There is an exciting pilot project with the University of Technology in Zurich (ETH) and Seed which aims to provide clean drinking water to the people of Bech Khlok. The project is not ready to be revealed yet. The ETH team is working hard and Seed is giving all the support needed. Kim’s German friend Nina, is trying to raise money by setting up market stalls to sell handmade products in support of our Seed projects. Furthermore, Nina is planning to write regularly about our activities on her blog. I designed a poster and information leaflets in support of Nina’s activities. Ein grosses Dankeschön an unsere unermüdlichen Helfer!
Nun bin ich bereits wieder seit bald zwei Monaten zurück in Neuseeland. Obwohl ich mich im Moment nicht so intensiv um Seed kümmern kann, gibt es dank unermüdlichem Einsatz freiwilliger Helfer tolle Seed-Aktivitäten in Kambodscha, Deutschland und der Schweiz.
Kim, unsere freiwillige Helferin aus Deutschland, ist an der Countryside Class in Battambang sehr aktiv und wird dort noch bis im November täglich den Unterricht leiten, und Seavyong, unsere lokale Lehrerin, unterstützen. Im Juli werden über 4 Wochen zusätzlich diverse Aktivitäten zum Thema “Plastic Free July” stattfinden. “Plastic Free July” ist eine australische Initiative, die mit diversen Veranstaltungen über die ganze Welt, Aufklärungsarbeit zum Thema Plastik und Umwelt leistet. Sambath, der Gründer der Countryside Class, engagiert sich stark für “Plastic Free July Cambodia” und organisierte bereits letztes Jahr diverse Aktivitäten zu diesem Thema. Ich bin gespannt, was sich das Team der Countryside Class dieses Jahr dazu einfallen lässt und freue mich auf die Fotos und Berichte über die Aktivitäten Die folgenden Fotos sind vom Unterricht mit Seavyoung und Kim. Die Kartoffeln wurden übrigens danach weiterverwertet. An der Primarschule in Bech Khlok geht alles seinen gewohnten Lauf. Es hat zum Glück endlich wieder angefangen, regelmäßig zu regnen und die Wassertanks sind gut gefüllt. Schüler und Lehrer geniessen den Unterricht in den neuen Klassenzimmern und ich hoffe, die neu eingeführten Lehrmittel kommen fleissig zum Einsatz. Zum Thema "Sauberes Trinkwasser für die Bewohner in Bech Khlok" gibt es ein spannendes Wasserfilter-Pilotprojekt mit der ETH Zuerich (Eidgenössisch Technische Hochschule), dass aber noch nicht ganz spruchreif ist. Ich werde deshalb noch keine Details verraten. Die Arbeiten dazu laufen auf Hochtouren und ich hoffe sehr, dass alles wie geplant durchgeführt werden kann. Eine Freundin von Kim, Nina, wird in den kommenden Monaten in Deutschland sehr aktiv für Seed tätig sein. Sie wird Standaktionen organisieren und selbstgemachte Produkte zugunsten von Seed verkaufen. Ausserdem wird sie regelmäßig auf ihrem Blog über Seed berichten. Ich habe für diese Standaktionen ein schönes Plakat entworfen (Format A2 oder kleiner) und Informationsblätter zu den Projekten zusammengestellt. Stefan Wolf aus Deutschland, hat mich sehr bei der Arbeit für diesen ersten Jahresbericht unterstützt und ich finde, wir können auf das Resultat dieser Zusammenarbeit stolz sein. Da die englische Übersetzung etwas länger dauerte als erwartet, konnte der Bericht erst jetzt veröffentlicht werden. Viel Spass beim Lesen und bis bald! Andrea
