Only four weeks after my arrival the school is almost built already! Early last week we could already start painting the walls and installing the bookshelves. This library will become something of a small oasis and a place to retreat for the children of Bech Khlok. And the room can also be used for special activities with the children. For Seed, it has become a lot easier to spend time in Bech Khlok now that there are actual toilets, and camp beds to sleep on. So we will try to be there more often.
And this is how it looks like two weeks later. We are already adding the final touches to the library! Kim and Marc are painting the library and a nice pattern on the brick wall outside, Sambath and Yeat are mounting the book shelf and I am working on a wall painting at the entrance of the library.

To make that possible, we urgently need a better way to get to Bech Khlok, and to transport materials there. A motorcycle accident involving Kim and Sambath has shown us again how dangerous the trips to Bech Khlok really are. Last week, on the way back from Bech Khlok, a pig ran onto the road straight in front of the motorcycle, and Kim and Sambath were thrown off, flying high through the air and landing hard on the road. They were extremely lucky to get away with bruises and abrasions and a huge shock. We are now looking for a decent small second-hand pick up, but we really urgently need some more donations for that! We think the price range for the pick-up will be US$ 7'000 - 8'000. I would like to point out again that in Switzerland your donations can be deducted for taxation purposes, we are more than happy to issue your donation confirmations. Next week Heang and I will distribute the DrinkPure water filters to families with babies and toddlers in Bech Khlok. Families have to attend a workshop about the correct use of these filters before they get one.
The Countryside Class in Battambang has in the meantime grown to now have 81 students registered! Some of the children come for several hours each day. We have planned some activities there for the next weeks, mostly in the library, like for instance the Moomin Weekend this Saturday and Sunday. We will also organize more games and play for the start of Khmer New Year towards the middle of April.On the 22nd of April we will celebrate the inauguration of the completely finished Bech Khlok school! This time, a small delegation of the Ministry of Education will be present! They will organize the official part of the event. we will then happily take care of the festive part of it! After the inauguration Kim, Heang and I will stay in Bech Khlok for a week.Finally, here is a link to our Annual Report. You will see that at Seed truly every cent counts!!
Effizienter bauen kann man wohl kaum und wie wir das Dschungelbuch neu definieren :) Nur vier Wochen nach meiner Ankunft ist die Schule schon fast fertig gebaut! Anfang dieser Woche konnten wir bereits die Wände der B (Kurze Erklärung zum Titel: die Schule wurde früher Dschungelschule genannt, da Bech Khlok nahe am Dschungel liegt).ibliothek streichen und die Bücherregale installieren. Diese Bibliothek wird so etwas wie eine kleine Oase und Rückzugsort für die Kinder von Bech Khlok. Der Raum kann auch für spezielle Aktivitäten mit den Kindern genutzt werden. Da nun Toiletten, ein kleiner Waschraum und Feldbetten unseren Aufenthalt in Bech Khlok wesentlich erleichtern, möchten wir versuchen, öfters vor Ort zu sein.
[Bilderlegende] Zwei Wochen später ist es bereits fast fertig und wir konnten mit dem Streichen der Bibliothek beginnen. Kim und Marc, ein Volontär aus der Schweiz, streichten innen und verzierten die Backsteinwand aussen im Zwischenbereich, Sambath und sein Freund Yeat installierten die Bücherregale und ich malte ein Wandbild vor dem Eingang.
Um öfters vor Ort sein zu können, brauchen wir aber dringend eine bessere Transportmöglichkeit nach Bech Khlok. Ein Motorradunfall von Kim und Sambath hat uns deutlich gemacht, wie gefährlich die Fahrten nach Bech Khlok sind. Letzte Woche, auf dem Rückweg von Bech Khlok, rannte ein Schwein direkt in Sambath’s Motorrad und er und Kim flogen in hohem Bogen auf die Strasse. Sie hatten Glück, dass sie nicht von einem Auto überrollt wurden und kamen mit Schürfungen, Prellungen und einem grossen Schock davon. Wir sind jetzt auf der Suche nach einem Second-hand Pick-up, sind aber wirklich dringend auf weitere Spenden angewiesen. Wir rechnen mit einem Kaufpreis von 7’000-8’500 USD. Ich moechte an dieser Stelle auch nochmals darauf hinweisen, dass Spenden innerhalb der Schweiz, von den Steuern in Abzug gebracht werden können. Wir stellen gerne eine Spendebestaetigung aus. Nun noch kurz zu den Plänen für die weiteren Wochen. Nächstes Wochenende werde ich mit Heang die DrinkPure Wasserfilter an Familien mit Kleinkindern in Bech Khlok verteilen. Dazu gibt es einen Workshop, die die Familien besuchen müssen, um die Filter zu erhalten. Zudem werden wir zum Auftakt von Khmer New Year Mitte April, Spiele organisieren. Am 22. April findet dann die offizielle Einweihung der Schule in Bech Khlok statt. Diesmal wird auch eine kleine Delegation des Bildungsministeriums anwesend sein. Sie werden den offiziellen Teil der Einweihung organisieren. Wir übernehmen dann sehr gerne den Spiel und Spass Teil :) Anschliessend verbringen Kim, Heang und ich eine Woche in Bech Khlok.
